FIFA Lifts Transfer Ban on Zamalek as Club Resolves Outstanding Cases

The transfer ban imposed on Zamalek by FIFA has officially been lifted as of Monday, following the successful resolution of all cases that led to the governing body’s sanctioning of the Egyptian football club.

Zamalek had faced restrictions preventing them from making any signings during the summer, stemming from their failure to settle dues owed to Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon for the transfer of captain Mahmoud ‘Shikaballa’ Abdel-Razek in 2015. Additionally, outstanding payments to former Ghanaian player Benjamin Acheampong and Beninese forward Samson Akinyoola contributed to the imposed ban.

Earlier this month, the Zamalek board confirmed the resolution of all cases and awaited FIFA’s official announcement. The club’s statement noted, “After extensive and challenging negotiations, the club has successfully resolved all financial dues and fines with all parties involved. We have resolved 14 cases and now await an official letter from FIFA confirming the lifting of the transfer ban.”

Despite a challenging season resulting in a third-place finish in the domestic league, Zamalek, now free from the transfer ban, can actively participate in the winter transfer window. Currently in 12th place on the league table with 11 points from eight matches, Zamalek aims to bolster its squad. The club has been linked with potential signings such as Pyramids FC veteran playmaker Abdallah El-Saed, Egypt U-23 midfielder Mohamed Shehata, and Modern Future midfielder Nasser Maher.

With the transfer window set to close at the end of January, Zamalek has a limited time to finalize potential acquisitions.
