Italian Serie A club Lecce has expressed a keen interest in securing the services of Hatayspor’s versatile Nigerian midfielder, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru. According to reports from Sky Sports UK, Lecce has submitted an offer to bring the Manchester City academy product to Italy, facing competition from Portuguese giants Porto.
Earlier linked with Napoli and Fenerbahce, Dele-Bashiru’s recent standout performances at Hatayspor have captured the attention of Lecce, who are actively seeking midfield reinforcements before the January transfer window concludes.
The 22-year-old midfielder, who made a significant impact since joining Hatayspor from Sheffield Wednesday, showcased his prowess with eight goal involvements in his initial eleven appearances in the Turkish Super Lig. This impressive form earned him a maiden call-up to the Nigerian national team for friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique in October.
Despite narrowly missing out on the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations squad, Dele-Bashiru’s ability to play in various roles, including as an attacking midfielder, box-to-box midfielder, and out wide, adds valuable versatility to his skill set. With two and a half years remaining on his contract with Hatayspor, Lecce aims to secure his signature and bolster their midfield options.
