In a remarkable show of support, 163 Ghanaian fans, stakeholders, and football enthusiasts embarked on an all-expenses-paid trip to Ivory Coast to cheer for the Black Stars in the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON). This generous gesture was made possible by telecommunications giants MTN, representing the largest number of supporters the company has ever sent to a tournament.
The lucky fans and MTN staff boarded an Emirates flight to Abidjan for a 10-day trip, providing them the opportunity to support the national team in all three group matches. The comprehensive package included return flight tickets via Emirates, 10-night accommodation with daily breakfast, an additional meal per day, ground transportation within Abidjan, two days of tourism activities, match tickets for Ghana’s group stage matches, and a token of airtime for roaming per diem.
For many fans, this MTN-sponsored journey marked a dream come true, granting them their first-ever experience at AFCON. Denzel Adjei from Kumasi expressed excitement about cheering the Black Stars to victory, while Eben Odame from Accra, fortunate to join the MTN-sponsored trip for the second time, shared his delight about attending the AFCON for the first time and trying Ivorian cuisine.
Kojo Shaddy, a student in Accra, highlighted the opportunity to witness the stadium atmosphere, having never been to a live match before. Abigail Amankwah, attending the tournament for the first time, thanked MTN for the chance and expressed hope that Ghana would bring home the trophy.
With the aim of clinching the AFCON trophy for the first time in 42 years, the Black Stars, led by Andre Dede Ayew, will have the fervent support of these fans, courtesy of MTN and other stakeholders. The journey not only brings joy to the fans but also adds an extra layer of enthusiasm to Ghana’s campaign in the continental championship.
