Ghanaian boxer Sena Agbeko is exuding confidence as he prepares to face David Morrell Jr. in a high-stakes world title bout on Saturday night. The 31-year-old Agbeko (28-2, 22 KOs) is set to challenge Morrell for the WBA “regular” super middleweight title in the headline event of a Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) showcase, airing live on SHOWTIME from the Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Despite oddsmakers favoring Morrell (9-0, 8 KOs), a formidable Cuban-born southpaw with an impressive amateur record and a swift ascent to a world title in his fifth pro bout, Agbeko remains unfazed.
Acknowledging Morrell’s skills and potential, Agbeko stated in a recent interview, “He’s good, he’s definitely good. I think he’s a complete fighter. He’s a good fighter with a lot of great potential. But at the moment, I think I’m better than him.”
Agbeko enters the bout on a hot streak, boasting five consecutive victories, including a notable upset decision win over Isaiah Steen in October 2022. His most recent triumph was a second-round TKO over Bruno Romay in October.
While Morrell is often regarded as the “Boogeyman” in the super middleweight division, Agbeko has fearlessly called him out for months. The initial bout, slated for April on the undercard of the Gervonta Davis-Ryan Garcia PBC on SHOWTIME pay-per-view, faced cancellation due to concerns from the state athletic commission regarding Agbeko’s medical history. Despite setbacks, the fight is now on, just days away, offering Agbeko a chance to pull off an upset and potentially bring another world title to Ghana. As the world eagerly anticipates the clash, Agbeko’s determination and confidence shine through, setting the stage for an exciting showdown.
