The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the upcoming 13th African Games has appointed Yaw Sakyi Afari, a seasoned media and sports events consultant, as the Chairman of the Marketing and Sponsorship Committee. Yaw Sakyi takes over from Reks Brobby, who previously served as both the Head of Marketing and Sponsorship and the Deputy Chief Operating Officer.
With a remarkable track record in sports events marketing and a passion for innovative campaigns, Yaw Sakyi Afari is set to lead the marketing efforts for the African Games. This appointment aligns with his commitment to delivering an outstanding games experience and engaging a diverse audience.
As the founder of RITE Sports, Yaw Sakyi has been instrumental in revitalizing basketball interests in Ghana through initiatives like the Sprite Ball Championship, UPAC Basketball Championship, Ghana Basketball Awards, and the Africa Basketball Festival (ABF). His contributions to the development and promotion of basketball in Ghana have earned him prestigious awards, including the 2017 EMY Sports Man of the Year.
In his new role, Yaw Sakyi Afari aims to leverage his extensive experience to lead the marketing committee in developing and executing strategic initiatives that enhance the visibility and success of the African Games. The focus will be on creating a dynamic and immersive experience for sponsors, partners, participants, and attendees.
Speaking about his appointment, Yaw Sakyi expressed excitement, stating, “I am honored to take on the role of Chairman of the Marketing & Sponsorship Committee for the 13th African Games. The committee includes notable figures such as Mawuko Afadzinu, Marketing Director of Stanbic Bank Ghana, Alhaji Ibrahim Adjei Sowah from Jubilee House, Gabriel Appiah, CEO of BTL Africa, Senyo Hosi, former CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors, Dr. Kwame Baah-Nuakoh, General Manager of Sustainability and Stakeholder Relations at the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, and David Antwi Ofori, Deputy Chair of the committee and Director of Innovations at NEIP.
