African Games 2023 Kick Off with Table Tennis Thrills on March 3
Excitement is building for the highly anticipated African Games – Accra 2023, slated to commence action on March 3, 2024. The official opening ceremony is set to unfold on March 8, 2024, at the state-of-the-art University of Ghana Stadium in Accra, marking the start of the 13th African Games.
Running until March 23, 2024, this multisport spectacle will showcase athletic excellence, team spirit, and national pride across 29 sports. Notably, six sports, including E-Sports, Mixed Martial Arts, Pickleball, Scrabble, Sambo, and Speedball, will be featured as demonstration sports.
The sporting extravaganza kicks off with table tennis at the Borteyman Sports Complex on Sunday, March 3, 2024, serving as an Olympic qualifier and setting the stage for the entire tournament. Badminton, another Olympic qualifier, follows closely at the same venue starting a day later.
The Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) has unveiled a provisional squad of 12 players who will proudly represent the nation. The women’s team boasts talents like Cynthia Kwabi, Joanita Borteye, Celia Baah Danso, Eva Adom Amankwa, and Bernice B. Borquaye. The male team, led by players such as Felix Lartey, Emmanuel Commey, Samuel Akayede, Bernard Joe Sam, James Marfo, Israel Aklie, and Ernest Mawutor Quarcoo, will be trimmed down to a final selection of five.
Anticipation is high for the Black Bombers, Ghana’s boxing team, who are expected to shine in the ring at the Bukom Boxing Arena from March 15 to March 22.
Tennis enthusiasts can also look forward to intense battles at the Borteyman Sports Complex, where tennis events are scheduled to take place from March 16 to March 23, 2024.
