As Nigeria prepares for the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final against South Africa, manager José Peseiro emphasizes the need for improvement in the team’s attacking performance. The Super Eagles secured a spot in the CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2023 semi-finals with a 1-0 victory over Angola, marking their fourth consecutive clean sheet in the tournament.
Scheduled to face South Africa at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké on Wednesday (5:00 PM GMT), a win in this crucial match would bring Nigeria closer to claiming their fourth AFCON title.
While acknowledging the team’s defensive strength, Peseiro highlights the importance of enhancing their attacking abilities. Despite securing a goal against Angola without conceding, the Portuguese coach believes that capitalizing on more goal-scoring opportunities is crucial for success.
“We could have created more opportunities,” Peseiro expressed, noting that with only six goals in five games, Nigeria has room for improvement in utilizing their quality. Despite facing challenges with key creators like Iheanacho and Aribo, Peseiro remains satisfied with his players and emphasizes the need for increased efficiency.
“As Nigeria chases their fourth AFCON title, Peseiro believes that finding a clinical edge could be decisive. The Super Eagles have achieved results through their solid defense, but rediscovering their scoring touch could lead Nigeria back to the pinnacle of African football,” he added.
