Kasimpasa central defender Kenneth Omeruo, the most experienced player in the Super Eagles squad at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), remains focused and grounded despite Nigeria’s advancement to the semi-finals with a fourth consecutive win and clean sheet.

With a remarkable nineteen games across four tournaments, Omeruo’s experience played a crucial role in the quarter-final match against Angola. Manager Jose Peseiro brought him on in the fifth minute of stoppage time, reinforcing the defense to secure a 1-0 lead and progress to the semi-finals.

Acknowledging the media distractions leading up to the Angola clash, Omeruo expressed satisfaction with the team’s ability to stay concentrated and execute their game plan.

“I feel good, there is still work to be done, but I’m happy we could win this game because there was a lot of talk from the media, and all, but we stayed concentrated. We kept to our game plan, and at the end of the day, we won,” Omeruo shared with reporters in the mixed zone.

The Super Eagles have showcased resilience and character throughout the AFCON, swiftly equalizing against Equatorial Guinea and securing four consecutive wins without conceding. When questioned about the team’s success, Omeruo attributed it to the unity among the players and the tactical acumen of the coach.
