Tayo Balogun, a sports analyst, has advised Nigerians not to burden the Super Eagles with unnecessary pressure during the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire. Speaking in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Balogun emphasized the importance of allowing the team to focus without distractions.
Balogun cautioned against sending delegations to visit the team, stating that such gestures could disrupt both players and coaching staff. He expressed optimism about the team’s potential for success and appreciated the coach’s stance on minimizing distractions.
“If this is maintained, they will get as far as the final and possibly win the cup. Let’s not put them under pressure; they are good enough already,” he urged.
The sports analyst commended the Super Eagles for their level-headed and composed approach, noting their respectful attitude towards opponents in each match. He highlighted the team’s defensive prowess, having conceded only one goal in five matches, and acknowledged the missed opportunities in the game against Angola.
“I foresee the Eagles beating either South Africa or Cape Verde. We will win either of them but not easily. There’s a lot of pressure on Victor Osimhen. He’s putting himself under too much pressure, and this shouldn’t be. A physiologist needs to tell him to calm down. I see him scoring two or three goals in this competition,” Balogun predicted.
As Nigeria progresses in the AFCON, Balogun’s advice emphasizes the need for a supportive and low-pressure environment to allow the team to continue their impressive performance in the tournament.
