In a recent development, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif has vehemently denied authorizing the closure of the Accra Sports Stadium during the Christmas period in 2023. The National Sports Authority (NSA), under the leadership of Prof. Peter Twumasi, made the decision to shut down the stadium to facilitate musical shows, a move that clashed with the ongoing Ghana Premier League and disrupted various football clubs’ home matches.

Facing scrutiny from the Public Accounts Committee, Minister Ussif emphasized that he did not endorse the decision to suspend football activities at the Accra Sports Stadium. Expressing specific concerns, he highlighted the detrimental impact hosting musical concerts could have on the stadium’s pitch.

During the committee session, Minister Ussif revealed that he has initiated discussions with NSA boss Prof. Peter Twumasi to address the stadium’s closure and determine the best course of action moving forward.
