In a dedicated showcase of boxing prowess, the Bukom Square and Korle Wonko in Accra witnessed a weekend of intense boxing activities as the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) joined forces with the SM Boxing Foundation to host a youth program aimed at nurturing the future boxing stars of the nation.
The event, marked by a youth and elite boxing tournament, proved highly successful, providing a platform to unveil numerous talents within the boxing community.
Mr. Ben Quartey, President of the GBA, lauded the efforts of the SM Foundation, acknowledging the significance of their concept. He also extended appreciation to the coaches and boxers who actively participated in the event.
Expressing their commitment to fostering the growth of young boxers, Mr. Solomon Otoo, Second Vice President of the GBF, conveyed the organization’s intention to organize more youth bouts. This initiative aims to keep emerging talents in optimal physical condition, ensuring they are prepared for both local and international tournaments.
Mr. Dauda Fuseni, the First Vice President of the GBF, emphasized the need for financial support from both the government and private sources to motivate and uplift the boxers. Recognizing the challenges of boxing as a demanding sport, he stressed the importance of inspiring and encouraging the aspiring boxers, especially as Ghana prepares to host the African Games.
Highlighting the potential of boxing to contribute significantly to Ghana’s medal tally, Mr. Fuseni urged the media to amplify coverage of boxing news. As the Black Bombers undergo training in Cape Coast, preparations are also underway for the Black Rockets, ensuring they are geared up for upcoming engagements.
