Nigeria’s Super Falcons, led by coach Randy Waldrum, have received a significant boost ahead of their 2024 Olympic qualifiers against Cameroon. The crucial doubleheader is set to take place in Douala on February 23 and 26.
Cameroon’s star player, Nchout Ajara Njoya, has withdrawn from the upcoming matches due to a lingering injury, as announced by the Cameroon Football Federation. The vice-captain of the Indomitable Lionesses alerted team medics about her unavailability, leading to her exclusion from the 3rd elimination round of the women’s football tournament for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
To fill the void left by Njoya’s absence, Cameroon’s coach has called upon striker Kameni Flora from FC Ebolowa. The Super Falcons now face Cameroon with the hope of securing victory in the qualifiers, with the winner advancing to the final round of Olympic qualification.
The development comes as a boost for Nigeria, as they aim to overcome historical challenges from Cameroon, who previously halted Nigeria’s Olympic aspirations in 2012. The matches are scheduled for February 23 and 26, and the Super Falcons look to capitalize on the absence of Cameroon’s key player.
