Black Starlets Secure Convincing 2-0 Victory Over Niger in Pre-WAFU Friendly

In a commanding performance at the Accra Sports Stadium, the Black Starlets emerged triumphant with a 2-0 victory over Niger in a pre-WAFU friendly match. Goals scored in both halves propelled the Black Starlets to a morale-boosting win as they gear up for the upcoming WAFU Zone B U17 Championship.

Benjamin Hanson and Joseph Narbi were the goal scorers for Ghana, showcasing the team’s readiness for the tournament. Hanson’s well-taken penalty just before halftime gave Ghana the lead, capitalizing on a foul in the penalty area. Despite Niger’s resilience, the Black Starlets maintained control, with Narbi sealing the victory late in the second half through a swift counterattack.

This match served as vital preparation for the Black Starlets, marking their final friendly encounter before the commencement of the WAFU U17 Championship on the 15th of this month. Under the guidance of coach Laryea Kingston, the team utilized the game to fine-tune their strategies and sharpen their skills.

Having recently participated in the UEFA U16 International Development Tournament in Russia, where they secured two victories, Ghana aims to build on their experiences and address any weaknesses ahead of the WAFU Championship. With Niger drawn in Group B alongside Nigeria, Togo, and Burkina Faso, and Ghana in Group A with Benin and Ivory Coast, the stage is set for an intense competition.

The WAFU Zone B U17 Championship not only promises thrilling matches but also serves as a pathway to qualify for the 2025 U17 AFCON, adding further significance to the tournament for both Ghana and Niger.
