Black Starlets Seek Bronze Against Rivals Golden Eaglets in WAFU U-17 Playoff

On Tuesday, the Black Starlets will face the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria in the 3rd place playoff of the 2024 WAFU Zone B Under-17 Championship. The match, set to kick off at 16:00 GMT at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, promises to be a thrilling encounter as both teams vie for the bronze medal.

The Black Starlets had a strong start to the tournament, defeating Ivory Coast 5-1 and Benin 2-0 to top Group A. However, their journey to the final was halted by a 2-1 semi-final loss to Burkina Faso, ending their championship dreams.

Now under the guidance of Coach Nana Agyemang, the Black Starlets are determined to secure the bronze medal. “The boys are poised for action tomorrow,” Agyemang stated after their final training session. “They know they have to give their all to capture some silverware from this tournament hosted by Ghana.”

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets, after a promising start, also fell short in the semi-finals, losing to Ivory Coast. Despite a goalless draw with Burkina Faso and victories over Niger (1-0) and Togo (3-0) to top Group B, the Eaglets missed out on the final.

Ghana has been prolific in the tournament, scoring eight goals and conceding only two, while Nigeria has scored four and conceded one. The upcoming clash not only promises excitement but also reignites the historic rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria.

As both teams aim for a podium finish, fans can expect a fiercely contested match in the quest for the bronze medal.
