The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the referees for Nigeria’s upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin Republic. The appointments include Chadian referee Alhadi Allaou Mahammat and Ethiopian official Bamlak Tessema Weyesa for the respective matches.
For the clash with South Africa, 38-year-old Mahammat, renowned for his previous appearances in prestigious tournaments like the CAF Champions League and the Africa Cup of Nations, will officiate. The match is scheduled for Friday, June 7, at 8 PM Nigeria time.
Meanwhile, the encounter against Benin Republic will see the 43-year-old Ethiopian referee Weyesa, often referred to as the ‘smiling referee’, taking charge. This match is set to take place on Monday, June 10, at 5 PM Nigeria time.
Assisting Mahammat will be a team comprising officials from Sudan, Sao Tome & Principe, and Chad, while Weyesa will be supported by fellow Ethiopians. The appointments underline CAF’s commitment to ensuring fair play and professionalism in African football.
