Everton Targets Nigeria-Eligible Luton Town Striker Elijah Adebayo

English Premier League club Everton has shown interest in signing ten-goal striker Elijah Anuoluwapo Adebayo, who is eligible to represent Nigeria, reports Sportblog247.com.

Adebayo, a 26-year-old England-born striker, has been a standout player for Luton Town throughout the 2023-24 English Premier League season, scoring ten goals in 16 starts. Despite his contributions, Luton Town faced relegation, prompting interest from top clubs in their key players like Ross Barkley, Gabriel Osho, and Elijah Adebayo himself, seeking opportunities to continue playing at the highest level in England.

According to reports from TeamTalk, Everton’s head coach Sean Dyche has instructed the club to intensify efforts to bring the 6-foot-5-inch tall striker to Goodison Park. Dyche, who admires Adebayo’s abilities, was particularly impressed by his goal against Everton during their 1-1 draw earlier in the season.

With Everton looking to bolster their attacking options after a challenging season where they scored just 40 goals in 38 games, Dyche sees Adebayo as a potential solution alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin, whose contract runs until 2025. This interest comes amid earlier reports linking Everton with Kelechi Iheanacho, whose contract with Leicester City expires this summer.

Adebayo, expressing his aspirations, mentioned that it would be a dream to represent the Nigerian national team, although it remains to be seen if he will receive an invitation for the upcoming World Cup qualifying games.

Notable achievements include Adebayo’s hat-trick in Luton’s 4-0 victory over Brighton in January, marking the first top-flight hat-trick for Luton since Lars Elstrup against Norwich City in September 1990.
