Finidi George Outlines Selection Criteria for Super Eagles Players

During his official introduction as the new Nigeria coach in Abuja, Finidi George shared insights into his player selection approach for the Super Eagles.

The former Ajax Amsterdam star stressed the significance of consistent club performances and unwavering dedication as key factors for earning a spot in the national team.

Historically, controversies have arisen over player selections, with some benchwarmers making it into the squad, disappointing both fans and pundits alike.

Despite boasting talents like Victor Osimhen, Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Ademola Lookman, and Moses Simon, the Super Eagles’ inconsistency in recent years has been attributed to a lack of commitment.

Addressing the media, Finidi emphasized the importance of players being active in their clubs and demonstrating loyalty to the national team.

“Nigeria comes first,” he stated. “Having experienced football abroad, I understand the value of representing our country. I expect the same level of commitment and loyalty from every player invited.”

With only one home-based player, Olorunleke Ojo, included in his squad for previous internationals against Ghana and Mali, Finidi’s approach prioritizes performance and dedication above all else.
