In a recent interview with Radio Marte, transfer market expert Luca Marchetti shed light on the anticipated departure of Victor Osimhen from Napoli at the close of the 2023-2024 season. Osimhen, who has been linked with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain, signed a new contract with Napoli last December, featuring a release clause of €130 million.
Speculation suggests that Chelsea could utilize Romelu Lukaku as part of the deal to bring Osimhen to Stamford Bridge. With Lukaku seemingly surplus to Chelsea’s plans after successive loan spells at Inter Milan and AS Roma, the Blues are keen to offload him permanently this summer.
Marchetti suggested that Napoli may view Lukaku’s inclusion as a makeweight in the Osimhen deal to avoid being put in a vulnerable position during negotiations. As Napoli prepares for Osimhen’s potential departure, they have identified alternative striker options, including Artem Dovbyk from Girona, Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP, and Jonathan David from Lille.
Regarding the prospect of Lukaku replacing Osimhen, Marchetti emphasized that it’s a strategic move for Napoli to diversify their options in the transfer market. While acknowledging Lukaku’s talents, Marchetti clarified that his potential inclusion is not contingent on the arrival of a new coach, contrary to some speculation.
Furthermore, Marchetti highlighted the quality of alternative striker targets identified by Napoli, acknowledging the challenge of adapting to Italian football for players from different leagues and playing styles.
Osimhen, the reigning African Footballer of the Year, has been in impressive form this season, contributing seventeen goals and four assists across thirty appearances in all competitions.
