After announcing Finidi’s appointment two weeks prior, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has now officially introduced former Ajax star Finidi George as the new head coach of the Super Eagles, according to Sportblog247.com.
While Finidi’s appointment was confirmed earlier, the specifics of the deal were not disclosed until the official unveiling ceremony held on Monday. At the event, attended by NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and Sports Minister John Enoh, Finidi signed his contract, solidifying his position.
Assisting Finidi will be his former Super Eagles teammate Daniel Amokachi, as well as Benjamin James, a former player for Shooting Stars based in Germany. Additionally, Mehmet Ozturk will serve as an analyst, while fitness trainer Chima Onyeike, with experience in Russia, Germany, and Greece, will provide support. Olatunji Baruwa will return as the goalkeeper trainer.
Reports indicate that Finidi has been granted a one-year contract. Having taken charge of the Super Eagles since March, he is now tasked with preparing the team for the crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin in June. The squad list for these matches is anticipated to be released soon.
The one-year contract suggests that the NFF is taking a cautious approach, possibly viewing this period as a trial for Finidi. Should he fail to meet expectations, his tenure could be short-lived.
