The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officially introduced former Ajax star Finidi George as the new head coach of the Super Eagles on Monday. Assisting him will be his former teammate Daniel Amokachi and Benjamin James, alongside Olatunji Baruwa as the goalkeepers’ trainer, Chima Onyeike as the fitness trainer, and Mehmet Ozturk as the analyst.
While the details of Finidi’s contract weren’t disclosed, his appointment signifies a significant moment for Nigerian football. Finidi’s coaching journey began as an assistant to Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro during the 2023 African Cup of Nations, where Nigeria finished as runners-up.
His confirmation follows his interim role during international friendlies against Ghana and Mali, with his main task being the 2026 World Cup qualifier against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
NFF President Ibrahim Gusau expressed optimism about the new era under Finidi’s leadership, emphasizing the federation’s commitment to supporting the team’s success. He stated their faith in Finidi to lead the team to future victories, emphasizing the goal of excellence across all levels of the National Teams. Gusau also noted that Finidi was given autonomy in selecting his assistants.
