Salisu Shines as Monaco Secures Champions League Qualification

Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu showcased his talent as AS Monaco clinched a vital victory in the 2023-2024 French Ligue 1 season, securing qualification for the UEFA Champions League next season. Monaco’s commanding 2-0 triumph over Montpellier on the road solidified their second-place finish behind league champions Paris Saint-Germain, guaranteeing one of three coveted Champions League spots. This achievement marks Monaco’s return to the prestigious tournament for the first time since the 2018-2019 season.

Salisu played a pivotal role in the victory over Montpellier, demonstrating his prowess as he manned the left side of a three-man defensive lineup. Throughout the game, the 25-year-old defender showcased his defensive acumen, making four clearances, two interceptions, winning four out of five aerial duels, and completing 54 of 61 passes accurately.

Despite facing setbacks due to a knee injury sustained in his final season with English Premier League side Southampton, Salisu has enjoyed a commendable debut campaign with the French club. His resilience and stellar performances have been instrumental in Monaco’s success this season.

Salisu is set to feature in Monaco’s season finale against FC Nantes on Sunday, May 19th at 19:
