Chelsea has announced through their official website that Richard Olise, younger brother of former Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise, has agreed to a new contract with the club.
The talented defender has secured his future at the London-based club by signing a one-year contract extension, with an option for an additional year. Originally set to expire this summer, Olise’s new deal ensures his continuity at Chelsea.
This season, Olise was permanently promoted to the U21 squad but faced challenges in securing a regular starting position, resulting in 14 appearances across various competitions by the season’s end.
Recently, he featured as a substitute in the second half of Chelsea U21’s semifinal loss to Tottenham in the Premier League 2 playoffs, missing out on the chance to claim his first title under manager Mark Robinson.
Having joined Chelsea at the Under-9 level, Olise progressed through the ranks, making his U18 debut in the 2021/2022 season and continuing until the 2022-2023 campaign. Despite limited opportunities with the development team last season, he participated in one U18 Premier League match and looks forward to more opportunities with the U21s in the upcoming season.
