US U19 Coach Declines “Insulting” Offer to Assist Finidi George with Super Eagles

Michael Nsien, coach of the United States U19 team, has rejected an offer from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to serve as an assistant to newly appointed Super Eagles coach Finidi George, citing contractual disagreements, as per Sportblog247.com.

Nsien, a former Nigeria U23 international, was among the candidates considered for the Super Eagles coaching position before the appointment of Finidi. However, despite expressing willingness to work with Finidi, Nsien declined the NFF’s offer due to dissatisfaction with the terms.

The NFF proposed to compensate Nsien on a per-match basis rather than offering a full contract, which Nsien found unacceptable. Despite his interest in the role, Nsien expected the NFF to provide a full contract and match or exceed his current salary with the US team, which the federation was unwilling to meet.

A source close to Nsien described the offer as “insulting,” emphasizing that Nsien is not desperate for employment as he still has two years remaining on his contract with the US team.

The rejection leaves the NFF facing uncertainty regarding their coaching staff as Nigeria prepares for crucial World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic next month.
