Former Super Eagles and Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi, recently underwent surgery at Princess Care Hospital in London, as reported by Sportblog247.com. The 37-year-old football legend shared photos on his Instagram story, showing himself before and after the surgery, and later exiting the hospital on crutches.
Although the exact reason for the surgery remains undisclosed, Mikel assured his followers through his Instagram updates that there is no cause for concern.
Mikel Obi, who has been active in ambassadorial roles with UEFA and hosts the “Obi One” podcast, enjoyed a stellar career at Chelsea. Joining the club in 2006 from Norwegian side Lyn, he departed Stamford Bridge in the winter transfer window of 2017. On the international stage, Mikel was instrumental in Nigeria’s 2013 AFCON victory under coach Stephen Keshi and secured a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro under coach Samson Siasia.
After an illustrious career spanning nearly two decades, Mikel retired from professional football two years ago at the age of 35. His club career included stints with FK Lyn, Chelsea, Tianjin Teda (China), Trabzonspor, Middlesbrough, Stoke City, and Kuwait SC.
