Nigeria’s under-17 female team, the Flamingos, have discovered their group stage opponents for the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic, as reported by Sportblog247.com.

The Flamingos demonstrated remarkable form in the qualifiers, overwhelming their opponents with dominant performances. They secured their World Cup spot by defeating the Central African Republic (CAR) 12-0 over two legs, thrashing Burkina Faso 7-1, and overpowering Liberia 6-1.

The draw for the tournament took place in Santo Domingo in the early hours of Sunday, Nigerian time, yielding a favorable outcome for the Flamingos. They will compete in Group A alongside hosts Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and New Zealand.

Nigeria and New Zealand are the most accomplished teams in Group A, each having achieved a third-place finish in previous U-17 World Cups. In contrast, Dominican Republic and Ecuador will be making their tournament debuts. Given the pedigree of the teams, Nigeria is favored to advance, with New Zealand posing the primary challenge, while Dominican Republic could leverage their home advantage.

Despite never having won the competition, the Flamingos, under coach Bankole Olowookere, aim to claim the title this time. The tournament is scheduled for October and November, with the first match on October 16 and the final on November 4.
