Former Arsenal and France midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes Napoli’s Victor Osimhen would be the perfect addition to Arsenal’s attack as they aim to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title next season, reports Sportblog247.com.
Arsenal is seeking a new striker after finishing second in the title race for two consecutive seasons. Osimhen, a key target for the Gunners this summer, comes with a high transfer fee. Napoli will only consider selling if his €130 million release clause is met. Both Arsenal and Chelsea are hesitant to pay this amount, complicating the potential transfer.
Despite this, Petit insists that Osimhen would significantly enhance Arsenal’s attacking options. Speaking to talkSPORT, as reported by Complete Sports, the World Cup winner said, “I would love to see a player like Osimhen as a striker. Someone who can hold defenders, think differently in attacking spaces, and be a big threat on set pieces. He has a physical presence and understands the game well.”
“I’ve been watching him since his time at Lille before he moved to Napoli. He would fit perfectly at Arsenal. I don’t know if Arsenal will buy him, but a striker is their top priority.”
Osimhen, despite injuries and international duties, scored 17 goals and provided four assists in 32 games for Napoli last season. The year before, he netted 31 goals in 39 games, helping Napoli win the Serie A title. The 25-year-old has been consistently prolific throughout his career, with 114 goals and 28 assists in 223 games, playing for Sporting Charleroi, Lille, and Napoli.
