Sportblog247.com confirms that English Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town are on the verge of announcing the signing of Aston Villa’s Nigerian midfielder Abube Onuchukwu. The 2005-born player has agreed to a two-year contract, which will keep him at Ipswich Town until June 30, 2026. The official confirmation of the deal is pending, but Onuchukwu will become an Ipswich Town player on July 1, 2024, following the expiration of his contract with Aston Villa.
Ipswich Town secured this significant transfer, outmaneuvering several Championship and League One clubs for the versatile central midfielder’s signature. Sheffield United and Hull City also invited Onuchukwu for trials, but he had already decided to join Ipswich Town. Stoke City, Blackburn Rovers, and League One’s Peterborough United also made unsuccessful attempts to sign him.
Although Onuchukwu primarily played as a central midfielder at Aston Villa, Ipswich Town plans to utilize him as a left-back and left-sided central defender. Onuchukwu joined Aston Villa at the U13 level and progressed through the youth ranks, signing a scholarship deal with the club before the 2022-2023 season.
