Jamie Walker Applauds Hearts’ New Signing Daniel Oyegoke as a Rising Talent

Former Hearts forward Jamie Walker has lauded the club’s latest acquisition, Daniel Oyegoke, expressing confidence in the young player’s potential to excel at the highest levels.

Walker, who played alongside Oyegoke at Bradford City, described him as “very, very good,” highlighting his impressive athleticism, strength, and speed. Reflecting on Oyegoke’s growth during their time together, Walker noted the player’s evolution into a key performer, particularly excelling in a central defensive role towards the end of the season.

“Athletically, he’s very good, strong and quick. Initially playing as a right wing-back, he had to find his place in the team,” Walker shared with Football Scotland. “But by the season’s end, he was exceptional as a right centre-back in a three-man defense. His confidence grew, and in the last few games, he was arguably our standout player.”

Walker suggested that Oyegoke’s ideal position is as an attacking right-back, an area where Hearts have sought stability since the departure of Michael Smith. He emphasized Oyegoke’s confidence, adaptability, and capacity for continuous improvement, anticipating a seamless integration into the Hearts squad.

“He’s more suited to an attacking right-back role. Hearts have struggled in that position since Michael Smith’s departure,” Walker analyzed. “Dan is a confident young man who will arrive expecting to play regularly. He blossomed at Bradford, so I’m confident Hearts fans will support his development. At just 20 years old, he has time to settle and thrive at the club.”

Walker, who facilitated discussions about Oyegoke’s move to Hearts, believes the club views him as an investment for the future, potentially aiming for a substantial return. He didn’t dismiss the prospect of Oyegoke eventually reaching the Premier League, given his talent and trajectory.

The 21-year-old, a product of Arsenal’s Hale End Academy, boasts international experience with England up to the U20 level, underscoring his pedigree and promise.
