Following their relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after a loss to Shooting Stars, Sporting Lagos has seen one of its talents, Adeleke Adekunle, make a significant move. The Israel-based club Maccabi Jaffa FC has secured the signing of the 21-year-old defender on a one-year deal, with an option to extend until June 2025, as reported by Sportblog247.com.
Adekunle, who will be playing at the Ness Ziona Stadium, has an option to extend his contract for an additional year, reinforcing his commitment to the Tel Aviv-based club. The club announced the acquisition on their social media platforms, expressing their excitement about the Nigerian center back’s versatility and prowess, which made him a standout player for Sporting Lagos.
“We are pleased to announce the signing of Nigerian defender Adeleke Adekunle (born 2002), who has agreed to terms for the 2024/25 season with an option from the club for both the 2025/26 and 2026/27 playing seasons,” stated the club.
Recognized as one of the promising talents in the Nigerian league, Adekunle previously played for NPFL giants Enyimba FC and Rivers United FC before joining Sporting Lagos during the January transfer window. Although he was an unused substitute in Sporting Lagos’ match against Shooting Stars, Adekunle will avoid relegation to the Nigerian National League (NNL) by continuing his football career in Israel.
