Italian club Napoli is reportedly preparing a new contract offer for Nigerian-eligible midfielder Michael Folorunsho, who is currently part of Italy’s squad for the Euro 2024 tournament.
Folorunsho joined Napoli in 2019 after impressing at Serie C side Virtus Francavilla. Upon signing, he was immediately loaned out to Bari. Over the years, he has been loaned to various Italian clubs to gain consistent playing time. However, it was his successful loan stint at Hellas Verona last season that truly caught attention.
In 34 league appearances for Verona, Folorunsho showcased his talents, scoring five goals and providing one assist. His impressive performances earned him a call-up to the Italian national team by manager Luciano Spalletti ahead of the Euro 2024 tournament.
According to reports from La Repubblica via Napoli Magazine, Napoli is keen to secure Folorunsho’s services for the long term and has prepared a new contract offer for the midfielder. This move is also seen as a way to restore harmony between Folorunsho’s agent, Mario Giuffredi, and the club.
Folorunsho made his debut for the Italian senior squad on June 9 in a friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina, coming on in the 76th minute to replace goalscorer Davide Frattesi in a 1-0 victory for Italy.
Despite appearing for Italy in friendlies, Folorunsho remains eligible to represent Nigeria internationally, as he has yet to play in a competitive match for Italy.
