The leadership of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) is reportedly considering bypassing its technical committee to directly appoint a foreign coach for the Super Eagles.
Former NFF president Amaju Pinnick previously approached Gernot Rohr and Jose Pesiero directly before their appointments were ratified by the technical committee.
Currently, former Zambia and Morocco coach Herve Renard and Cameroon coach Marc Brys are among the candidates linked with the vacant Super Eagles coaching position, despite not having applied for the job in March.
According to SCORENigeria, a close associate of the NFF president is already in Germany searching for a new coach for Nigeria.
Earlier this month, Sports Minister John Enoh instructed the NFF to reorganize both their technical committee and technical department.
The NFF technical committee had initially shortlisted five foreign coaches for the executive committee’s consideration: Antonio Conceicao, Luis Fernandez, Joaquin Caparros, Didier Six, and Miguel Herrera. However, they were later directed to explore local coaching options.
Despite this, the NFF has announced plans to appoint a foreign coach for the Super Eagles before the 2025 AFCON qualifiers begin in September.
