The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has debunked rumors of suspending Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen after his viral social media rant, as reported by Sportblog247.com.
Last weekend, Napoli star Osimhen took to social media to express his frustration after false reports claimed that former Super Eagles coach Finidi George had questioned his commitment to the team. The reigning CAF Champions League Player of the Year spoke disrespectfully about Finidi and lashed out at fans who criticized him.
This incident sparked controversy in Nigerian football, with some former Nigerian internationals calling for Osimhen to be punished. On Wednesday, rumors circulated that the NFF had decided to suspend the Super Eagles star.
However, the NFF has denied these claims. In a statement, the NFF emphasized their focus on resolving ongoing issues with the Super Eagles and preparing for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers and the remaining six matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series.
“Our focus presently is to resolve all matters around the Super Eagles and be able to look ahead with confidence to the 2025 AFCON qualifiers and the remaining six matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series,” the NFF stated.
Despite follow-up reports confirming that the post triggering Osimhen’s outburst was false, the Napoli star has yet to apologize to the NFF or Finidi.
