The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) appears poised to announce the successor to Finidi George as head coach of the Super Eagles, according to reports from Sportblog247.com.

Finidi stepped down just forty-two days after his appointment, following a tumultuous stint that included World Cup qualifying setbacks. Initially appointed as caretaker after Jose Peseiro’s departure, Finidi’s tenure soured after the team’s disappointing results against South Africa and Benin Republic.

Following discussions with the Sports Minister, the NFF reversed course on its coaching structure, opting to bring in a foreign technical adviser above Finidi, a decision that led to his resignation.

Reports from the Guardian suggest that the NFF will unveil a new foreign coach for the Super Eagles by the week’s end. Marc Brys, currently coaching Cameroon, is reportedly among the candidates under consideration.

Previously, the NFF had considered Portuguese coach Antonio Conceicao and former assistant to Pep Guardiola, Domènec Torrent, before appointing Finidi.

With Nigeria’s World Cup qualification hopes hanging in the balance, having secured three points from their first four games, the new coach faces the daunting task of guiding the team through a critical remaining qualifying campaign.
