Fenerbahce defender Alexander Djiku has emphasized the team’s commitment to winning every match as they prepare for their first competitive game of the season against Lugano in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
The Turkish side is set to face the Swiss team in the second round of the elite competition on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the Stockhorn Arena.
Djiku expressed confidence in Fenerbahce’s readiness for the crucial clash and underscored their goal of advancing to the Champions League group stage this season.
“Lugano is a strong team. Last season, they finished second in their league and are known for their goal-scoring capabilities. We are eagerly anticipating tomorrow’s match,” Djiku said at the pre-match press conference.
“We have played numerous friendly matches and feel very prepared. Our goal is to start the official season strongly and aim to win every game, whether we are playing at home or away,” he added.
The match will also mark the official debut of manager Jose Mourinho with Fenerbahce, kicking off the club’s European campaign for the season.
Since joining Fenerbahce last summer, Djiku has become a key player, and his leadership will be essential as the club seeks success in the Champions League.
