Victor Boniface, who shone brightly for Bayer Leverkusen in the first half of last season before injury setbacks, has received strong backing from Bayer Leverkusen managing director Simon Rolfes to rediscover his peak form, Sportblog247.com reports.
Boniface made a significant impact after his €21.7 million transfer from Belgian club Royale Union SG, showcasing his talent with impressive performances early on. The Nigerian striker earned consecutive Rookie of the Month awards in the first half of the season, amassing 16 goals and nine assists by the turn of the year.
However, a January injury sidelined Boniface for four months, disrupting his momentum and resulting in reduced playing time upon his return.
Now, as Bayer Leverkusen resumes pre-season training, doubts linger over Boniface’s role in the squad. Despite this, Simon Rolfes expressed confidence in Boniface’s ability to bounce back strongly.
“After such an injury, it is not easy to regain explosiveness and confidence, both physically and mentally,” Rolfes remarked to Kicker. “But he will be in a much better condition at the start of the season.”
Bayer Leverkusen has commenced their pre-season fixtures, starting with a match against RW Essen on July 27, followed by games against Lens and Arsenal, culminating in the Super Cup clash against Stuttgart on August 17.
