Canada to Face Nigeria in Closed-Door Match Ahead of Paris Olympics

Canada’s women’s soccer team is set to play against Nigeria in a closed-door training match on Wednesday in Marbella, Spain, marking their final preparation before defending their title at the Paris Olympics.

Announced by Canada Soccer, the closed-door fixture was confirmed as the team continues its training camp in Spain since July 4. In their recent Tier 2 match in Marbella on Saturday, the eighth-ranked Canadian team secured a 2-1 victory over No. 12 Australia, a match that didn’t affect rankings due to unlimited substitutions.

Canada’s Olympic journey in Group A begins on July 25 against No. 28 New Zealand, followed by matches against No. 2 France on July 28 and No. 22 Colombia on July 31. Nigeria, placed in Group C, will face No. 1 Spain, No. 7 Japan, and No. 9 Brazil.

Historically, Canada holds a 2-1-3 record against Nigeria, with their most recent encounter being a goalless draw at the FIFA World Cup in Australia last summer.
