Dr. Randy Abbey, a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, has strongly criticized the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the deteriorating condition of the Ho Sports Complex.
Despite a substantial $4 million investment in its construction, the facility, which hosted the 2023 Independence Day celebrations, has fallen into disrepair. Dr. Abbey, also known for his role as host of Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, expressed outrage over the neglect and questioned the accountability surrounding the facility’s maintenance.
“The Ho Sports Complex, which was used for Independence Day last year, has now deteriorated despite being funded by taxpayers’ money. The decision to build the facility there was based on a needs assessment, but the current state raises serious concerns,” Dr. Abbey said.
He criticized the Ministry of Youth and Sports and other responsible agencies for allowing the facility to fall into disrepair, and questioned why there has been no accountability for the maintenance of the stadium.
A video shared by sports journalist Saddick Adams on X reveals the facility’s poor condition, including an overrun pitch, broken or removed seats, and visible damage to the roofing and structure.
Dr. Abbey’s remarks reflect growing concerns about the government’s commitment to maintaining sports infrastructure and ensuring the effective use of public funds.
