Edwin Gadayi and Mary Boakye Crowned 2024 GNPC Ghana Fastest Human Champions

The 2024 edition of the GNPC Ghana Fastest Human competition concluded on Saturday, June 29th, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium warm-up athletics track, where predictions held true as Edwin Kobla Gadayi from the Ashanti Region and Mary Boakye of the Ghana Armed Forces emerged victorious in the senior male and female categories, respectively.

The exciting event, organized on a cool, drizzling night, attracted students from ATTC who entertained patrons with their jama and young athletes from various parts of Ghana, notably the Ashanti, Bono, Upper West, Central, and Greater Accra regions.

Hon. Mustapha Ussif, the Minister of Youth and Sports and President of the Ghana Athletics Association, attended the races, commended the athletes, and presented awards to the top performers.

The winners received trophies presented by President HE Nana Akufo-Addo, along with medals, certificates, and gifts from GNPC and Adidas.

In the highly competitive Senior Female Race, Mary Boakye ran 11.43 seconds, beating Janet Mensah (11.66 seconds) from the Ashanti Region and rising star Nassera Quansah (11.76 seconds) from the Central Region SHS.

Edwin Gadayi ran 10.24 seconds to defeat 2020 Olympian Sarfo Ansah, who clocked 10.45 seconds, and Michael Cudjoe, who finished in 10.54 seconds, securing the title of 2024 GNPC Ghana’s Fastest Human. Gadayi expressed his joy to the media, describing it as a mission accomplished after previously finishing second. He thanked his trainers and running mates and promised to prepare well to represent Ghana at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as part of the 4x100m relay team.

Mr. Reks Brobby, the initiator of the Ghana Fastest Human concept, praised the event’s success and thanked the sponsors and attendees.

The event also featured finals for Under 15 boys and girls and Under 18 boys and girls.
