Favour Ofili Misses 100m Event at Paris 2024 Due to Registration Oversight by Nigerian Authorities

Nigeria’s campaign at the 2024 Olympics has been hit by controversy as sprint medal hopeful Favour Ofili has been excluded from the Women’s 100 Metres event. Despite qualifying, the Louisiana State University athlete announced on Instagram that the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) and Athletics Federation of Nigeria failed to register her for the competition.

Ofili, who has previously won gold and silver in the Women’s 4×400 Relay and 400 Metres event at the 2019 African Games in Morocco, expressed her frustration, noting this was not the first time such an oversight occurred. She also missed the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to a failure by Nigerian authorities to release funds for necessary testing of US-based athletes.

This incident follows other organizational issues, such as Nigeria’s Women’s Basketball Team being turned away from the opening ceremony boat ride due to overcapacity. Ofili, now set to compete in the Women’s 200 Metres, lamented her ordeal in her social media post.
