The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) will finance Team Ghana’s pre-games training camp in preparation for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, France.
Ghana will be represented by nine athletes competing in athletics and swimming at the Paris Games.
In an interview, the President of the GOC, Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah, explained that this initiative aims to support the government’s efforts to ensure a successful campaign for Team Ghana and alleviate some of the financial burden on the government. The GOC has allocated €35,000 for this purpose, excluding flight tickets and per diems.
Mr. Nunoo Mensah highlighted that the GOC had received support from the French Embassy in Ghana and a pre-games subsidy from the International Olympic Committee to aid in the pre-games training and acclimatization. He noted that the overall budget for the Games is managed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and could not provide the exact figure.
Team Ghana is scheduled to depart for Strasbourg on Sunday, July 7, for a two-week intensive training camp before traveling to Paris by train on July 22 to the Games Village.
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will take place from Friday, July 26, 2024, to Sunday, August 11, 2024.
