Mr. Gordon Frimpong, CEO of Osibor Management and Promotions, has addressed the criticisms made by Mohammed Amin Lamptey regarding the quality of opponents in Osibor’s boxing events. Frimpong highlighted the challenges of organizing promotions, especially when boxers either choose their opponents or are hesitant to fight.
He emphasized that no boxer should be considered inadequate as long as they are active, mentioning Emmanuel Quartey and Isaac Nettey as examples of accomplished boxers. Frimpong also noted that boxing is both a sport and entertainment, and staging events in different regions imposes financial burdens.
Frimpong urged the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Communications Director to acknowledge his efforts in promoting boxing. “We want to get more world champions for the nation and it is a gradual process. We are not comparing ourselves to other promotions, but we are doing our best and we are doing it right,” he stated.
He praised boxers Stanley Nyantekyi, known as the Ashanti Warrior, and John Zile, known as the Monster, for their achievements. Frimpong expressed pride in these young champions and encouraged them to strive for world titles.
Osibor Promotions, known for expanding the sport to the Ashanti Region, has garnered many admirers and fans. Despite Lamptey’s discouraging remarks, Frimpong remains motivated to achieve positive results. He called on the GBA to support promotions and managers, and to establish national ratings to help fans identify top contenders.
Stanley Nyantekyi was recognized as the best boxer by Boxing Ghana in a 2023 poll and received the Golden Age Business and Creative Art Award for Sports Personality of the Year. He has also added the UBO title to his national and LBO belts. John Zile, from the Bono Region, is always eager to fight top opponents, believing in the value of beating the best to become a champion. Initially aspiring to be a footballer, Zile found his passion for boxing at the Bronx Gym in James Town, Accra.
