Veteran coach J.E.A. Sarpong has issued a stern warning to Asante Kotoko following their decision to release over 20 players after a challenging season.
Sarpong expressed concern that the club’s mass layoffs could severely impact team stability and potentially lead to relegation.
“It will affect the team. They’ve been sacking players every season. Where is the stability?” Sarpong remarked in an interview with Mothers FM. “For instance, Amankona was brought to Kotoko for his scoring ability but ended up winning the golden boot back at Berekum. There seems to be something fundamentally wrong.”
He emphasized the importance of managing the team effectively, citing previous instances where player turnover disrupted performance.
“Asante Kotoko must maintain some continuity with experienced players. They risk relegation if they don’t handle this situation carefully,” Sarpong cautioned.
Asante Kotoko concluded the previous season in sixth place, failing to secure any trophies.
