Sena Agbeko Claims Canelo Alvarez Avoids David Benavidez Due to Disrespect

Ghanaian super middleweight contender Sena Agbeko believes Canelo Alvarez’s reluctance to fight David Benavidez stems from a perceived lack of respect from Benavidez and his camp.

In an exclusive interview with ChannelOne Sports, Agbeko, who is preparing to face Osleys Iglesias in Canada on August 17, shared his insights on the situation. Agbeko last fought in 2023, losing to David Morrell by knockout in the second round.

Agbeko, who assisted Alvarez in training for his bout against Jaimie Munguia, speculated that the disrespect Benavidez has shown Alvarez is the main reason for Alvarez’s avoidance of the fight.

“I was with Canelo for seven weeks preparing him for Jaimie Munguia and had the opportunity to ask him about the Benavidez situation. Personally, I think it’s a matter of respect for him,” Agbeko said.

“He’s the man right now, in a position of power and influence. He feels that Benavidez and his team have disrespected him on numerous occasions. When someone has the power to impact your life and you’ve displeased them, they might choose to affect your life,” Agbeko added.
