AFBC President Eyassu Berhanu Congratulates African Boxers Shining at Paris 2024 Olympics

The President of the Africa Boxing Confederation (AFBC), Eyassu Wossen Berhanu, has extended his congratulations to Africa’s four quarter-finalists at the Paris Olympics.

“Bravo! I’m thrilled by your awesome job in Paris, our great boxers. A round of applause from me as AFBC President and the rest of my team,” Berhanu said.

Cape Verde’s David Pina, who won on Tuesday, will meet Zambia’s Patrick Chinyemba in an all-African quarter-final.

“Your strategic brilliance in outsmarting your opponents was remarkable.

“Africa is proud of our four quarter-finalists: Morocco’s world heavyweight champion Khadija Mardi, Africa Games bantamweight champion Widad Bertal, Zambia’s flyweight ring genius and Africa champion Patrick Chinyemba, and Cape Verde’s stylish flyweight David Pina, who also did Africa proud in Thailand.

“We expect more boxers from Africa in the quarter-finals.

“My humble request to you all in Paris is to make Africa proud by winning more medals, including gold. Just believe in yourselves—you’ll make it.

“To those who have lost, we hail your courage, passion, and determination for being in the ring to fight for Africa. That in itself is an achievement, and remember, you’re now known as Olympians. It’s a great honor to be an Olympian. A virtual pat on the back for your bravery to all our African boxers in Paris.”
