Asante Kotoko have successfully signed Nigerian winger Wisdom Fernando on a three-year contract, GHANASoccernet.com can exclusively confirm. The former Akwa United player was signed to replace Bernard Somuah, who has been loaned out to Spanish side Celta Fortuna.
Fernando’s registration was finalized on the last day of the transfer window, Sunday, August 25, 2024. The 22-year-old joins Kotoko on a free transfer after his loan spell at Sporting Lagos ended, along with the expiration of his contract with Akwa United.
Fernando has recorded seven goals and eight assists in 76 appearances over seven seasons in the Nigerian Professional Football League. He was instrumental in Akwa United’s Nigeria Premier Football League title win in the 2020-21 season.
He becomes the fifth foreign player to join Asante Kotoko this transfer window, following the signings of Sudanese players Esmat Abdulhamid and AbdoelRahman Yoouef Yagoub, Congolese defender Samba O’Neil, and Guinean goalkeeper Mohamed Camara.
