In preparation for the Black Stars’ crucial match against Angola on September 5, the Baba Yara Sports Stadium pitch is receiving significant attention, including an extensive “water treatment” process.

A video circulating on social media shows a water tank heavily irrigating the pitch, sparking discussions about the poor state of sports facilities in Ghana. The upcoming match is part of the opening round of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, where Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team will compete in Group F alongside Angola, Niger, and Sudan.

Recent criticism of the Baba Yara Stadium’s pitch has focused on the poor grass quality and uneven surface. Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey previously called on Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to address the pitch issues before the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic in June.
