Coach Chris Nimley has expressed deep concern over the deteriorating condition of the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex, formerly known as the Kaneshie Sports Complex. Renamed in honor of Ghana’s boxing legend Azumah Nelson, the multi-purpose stadium was originally built to serve the nation’s sporting needs. However, according to Coach Nimley, the facility has been neglected and left to decay.
During a panel discussion on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” program, Coach Nimley urged the government to take immediate action to restore the complex. He emphasized the importance of the facility, not only as a tribute to Azumah Nelson’s unparalleled legacy but also as a potential hub for developing future boxing talents in Ghana.
“Go to the Azumah Nelson Complex and fix the mess there. That alone can be turned into a boxing hub… You can choose to abandon all the other resource centers, but not the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex,” Nimley stated, specifically appealing to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to prioritize the renovation of the facility.
He concluded by urging the government to bring the complex up to standard, suggesting it could become a key center for boxing talent development, potentially helping Ghana secure at least three medals in the next Olympic Games in America.
