Economic Struggles Forcing Ghanaian Boxers to Compromise Values, Says GBA Executive John Manfo

John Manfo, an executive member of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), has highlighted the financial hardships faced by Ghanaian boxers, noting that these challenges are compelling many to compromise their values for quick financial gains. In an interview with Graphic Sports, Manfo, who also works as a boxing promoter and manager, acknowledged the significant impact of the country’s economic climate on athletes.

He pointed out that many boxers are struggling to meet basic needs, leading to decisions that may not align with their long-term career goals, a situation made worse by the lack of adequate management support. While Manfo agreed with fellow GBA member Alhaji Muritella Tofik on the need for boxers to face tougher opponents to improve their title prospects, he emphasized the complexity of the current situation but remained optimistic about the sport’s future in Ghana.
