Ghanaian champions, Hasaacas Ladies, dominated with a 6-1 victory over Niger’s AS Garde National in their final Group B match on Saturday afternoon, but it wasn’t enough to secure a spot in the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League. Despite the impressive win, Hasaacas needed a six-goal margin to surpass Omnisports Etincelle on goal difference. Both teams finished with four points, but Omnisports advanced to the semifinals due to a superior goal difference.
Hasaacas took control early, with Fatoumata Tamboura scoring after 20 minutes, followed by goals from Grace Animah and Comfort Owusu to make it 3-0. Although AS Garde pulled one back before halftime, Hasaacas remained in command. Owusu scored her second goal after the break, and late strikes from Animah and Abigail Sakyiwaa brought the final score to 6-1. Despite their best efforts, Hasaacas Ladies will now shift their focus to domestic competitions, having narrowly missed out on a return to the CAF Women’s Champions League.
