Black Princesses Coach Yussif Basigi Urges Improved Finishing After Austria Defeat

Ghana’s Under-20 Women’s National Team head coach, Yussif Basigi, has emphasized the need for his team to improve its finishing following a 2-1 loss to Austria in their opening match of the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

The defeat marks Ghana’s tenth consecutive loss in the tournament, with the team struggling to progress beyond the group stage in six straight editions. Despite conceding an early goal, the Black Princesses found a late consolation through Stella Nyamekye in added time.

Reflecting on the match, Basigi lamented missed opportunities and called for sharper goal-scoring ahead of their next game against former champions Japan on Thursday, September 5.

“We didn’t utilize many of our chances, which was unfortunate. This is where we need to polish up so we can get back in contention,” he stated.
